The Longest Way Home cover

Thumbing through the latest New York Times style magazine, I stumbled upon a piece by actor Andrew McCarthy, about his climb of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, as a test of his ability to be loyal and consistent. He leaves behind a fiancee who is planning their wedding (McCarthy’s second) and isn’t at all sure he can go through with it. He struggles with the panic and breathing problems in the high altitude and by the end of the trip still isn’t sure about the marriage until he sees a local man striding through his fields with a sense of purpose.

I loved this article, which is an excerpt of McCarthy’s book, The Longest Way Home. The book covers several other exotic adventures he undertakes as he tries to settle down.
