Downward facing pet
I have a dog, the first dog I have ever owned. I didn’t grow up with dogs and I never yearned for one until a year or so ago when I started wishing for a hiking companion. Mine is a poodle, probably a decade old, who was found wandering the streets of North Haven, Connecticut, in October. He is so loyal and affectionate I hardly know what to do with myself. Where once I thought about what would happen if all of the dogs in my neighborhood got free at the same time, now I wonder why so many dog owners just let their dogs out the back door instead of walking with them. I am starting to think about the 77.5 million pet dogs in the United States and the 14.7 million or so of those who, like my dog, ended up at a shelter. Where was my dog before he started wandering? I am developing theories.
