President Obama, in his acceptance speech early Wednesday morning:
“We want our children to live in an America that isn’t burdened by debt, that isn’t weakened up by inequality, that isn’t threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet.”
A warming plant—a rising average world temperature that results in crazy weather in some places and serene weather in others. Hotter heat waves and less-cold winters. Acceleration of trends that would take much longer without the higher amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that is the result of the burning of fossil fuels, mostly from ordinary people’s activities, like driving cars.
“A warming planet”—now has come back out of the closet. Let the dialogue resume.
He also said: “And in the coming weeks and months, I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together—reducing our deficit, reforming out tax code, fixing our immigration system, freeing ourselves from foreign oil. We’ve got more work to do.”
